At Beeston Fields Primary School and Nursery, we are looking to appoint a Learning Mentor to provide high-quality 1:1 support in the classroom for children with additional social and emotional needs. At Beeston Fields, we pride ourselves on the high-quality support we provide to ensure that our children access the classroom successfully and make a contribution to the wider community.

Beeston Fields Primary School is a forward-thinking two-form entry school. We are a fabulously diverse school and celebrate the uniqueness of each individual within our school community. We have a commitment and passion to ensure that every child has the support, care, guidance and challenge to set them on the right path and as such the Beeston Fields Family is a fantastic one to be part of.

We are looking for someone with the following skills, aptitudes and experience:

  • Experience in supporting pupils with social and emotional needs (not limited to primary school but perhaps in residential care or specialist settings)
  • Knowledge of attachment theory
  • Knowledge of relational approaches
  • Knowledge of therapeutic interventions to aid behaviour management
  • Knowledge of strategies to support the mental health and well-being of pupils
  • Relevant recent professional learning which complements the school’s inclusive approach

You will work as part of a small but growing team to enable our young people to positively connect with life and learning. We have developed our own programme which involves a small number of children in bespoke community projects to enable them to share their ‘Story of Belonging’.

Your role will involve:

  • Supporting pupils to access a positive start to the day via a nurture breakfast experience
  • Supporting pupils to learn effectively and make progress across the curriculum
  • Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions
  • Working with teaching staff to enable and monitor progress and track the growth and development of our students
  • Preparing appropriate resources to deliver in sessions, tailored to the needs of the students
  • Being the key contact for the pupil’s parent/carer.
  • Acting as an advocate for the pupil to ensure their voice is heard.
  • Providing regular feedback to inform the next steps of the pupil’s journey.
  • Working to all of the school’s standards, code of conduct, risk assessments and safeguarding policy.
  • Attending and engaging in supervision sessions as appropriate and when required.
  • Engaging in continuing professional development.

To be successful in this role you will need to maintain a relentlessly optimistic attitude towards our pupils, advocating for their future success and showing unconditional positive regard. If you think this is you, please come and see us for further information and a tour of the school.
