Post: After School Education Club Assistant

Grade: NJC Point 2 (£9.18 per hour)

Responsible to: Senior Vice Principal / After School Club Supervisor

Hours of work: Term Time Only: Monday to Friday 3:15pm to 6:00pm

Purpose of the Job: To assist in the development, organisation and day to day administration and running of the club.

General information:
Each After School Assistant will supervise and participate in activities with the children in the club (indoors and outdoors) and may be allocated a specific child to support during the club.

A high standard of behaviour is required from the children and it is important that this should be maintained throughout in order that the club is a pleasant time for all concerned. The Assistant must act as a responsible caring adult with the health, safety, and welfare of the children always in mind; must show conduct which commands respect; and must see that the children behave at all times. The preparation of a light snack for tea is also required and the post holder will be required to undertake an online course to obtain a recognised food hygiene certificate.

The Assistant must be aware of how to get access to the first aid equipment, the telephone, and be aware of the First Aid procedures, emergency evacuation procedures, and safeguarding policies.

Duties:
1. To contribute positively to providing safe, creative and stimulating educational play activities to meet the needs of children aged between 4 and 11 years of age.

2. To assist in the planning, organisation, provision and evaluation of educational play sessions as part of a team.

3. To meet the individual needs of all the children attending the project and to help provide a warm and caring environment.

4. To assist where necessary with daily administration and record keeping.

5. To take responsibility for groups of children in activities as an individual or supported by other team members.

6. To establish good working relationships with parents using the club and to provide opportunities for feedback.

7. To be conscious of safety and safeguarding at all times, and to follow the school’s Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies.

8. To prepare a tea for the children.

9. To administer first aid as appropriate and to keep records of any accident or incident.

10. To carry out all responsibilities and activities within an equal opportunities framework and to promote equal opportunities within all aspects of the work.

11. To work within all agreed policies and procedures.

12. To work supportively with the office team.

13. Attend relevant meetings as required.

14. Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.

15. Be aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school work and to keep confidences as appropriate.

16. Any other curriculum duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that normally any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms.
