The V&A is custodian of a priceless collection of over 2 million objects, a high-profile world-renowned grade 1 listed museum building in South Kensington, a Museum in Bethnal Green, museum stores at Blythe House in London and Dean Hill in Wiltshire, and is manager of one of the world’s leading cultural attractions, with over 3.5m visitors a year and over 1,000 members of staff and volunteers.

Its security needs are growing and becoming more sophisticated and diverse, and the planning for major disruption, business continuity and cyber-security more complex and more important.

Security for the V&A is complex and far reaching, it includes; Safety, Emergency Response, Fire Safety, Fire Response and Business Continuity, in addition to physical security and the protection of our reputation and brand.

The V&A security team are responsible for ensuring a holistic approach to security, considering: governance, resilience, counter terrorism, physical security, information security and personnel security. The V&A’s Security Team will ensure that overall the service is; appropriate, legal, proportionate, and supports our strategic aims and objectives.

The post holder will be an important member of the V&A security team, charged with providing complete security and safety at the V&A – its visitors, personnel, buildings, collections, information and other assets.  The post holder will implement a holistic and dynamic security provision for the V&A, advising on national and international activity, and covering all areas of risk.

Reporting to the Security Manager, the post holder will represent security interests on projects and groups and play an active role in the management of security related contracts. The Security team need to respond dynamically to the security needs of the V&A. Therefore, the post holder will be required to work outside of ‘normal office hours’, including some weekends, bank holidays, late evening and early morning work. The post holder may also be required to travel within the UK or abroad to complete their duties.

The Security Supervisor will take a hands on approach, personally supporting and directing our security assets on the ground.
