The role

We have an exciting opportunity for an inspiring and creative BMX Freestyle Discipline Development Lead, to work within the BMX Freestyle Discipline and create a clear and accessible rider pathway from entry level to performance. The role holder will focus on ensuring freestyle resonates with young people, creating a clear and accessible pathway that captures their attention and inspires their lifelong involvement. Key will be the provision of local opportunities to develop skills and confidence, supporting progression for talented riders whilst staying true to the culture of BMX freestyle. The role is home based with regular travel to the National Cycling Centre as required.

What you’ll be doing

In this role you will develop a consultative 5-year strategic plan, using data and insights to support prioritisation of resources and investment, and produce annual operational plans to track and monitor delivery. Other accountabilities include:

  • Delivery and governance of the Sport England Freestyle Plan 
  • Collaborating with facility providers to increase and diversify participation increasing from 600,000 riders to 1 million by 2026
  • Working with different British Cycling Teams to create programmes and competition structures
  • Supporting the education team to develop a coaching and officials’ pathway
  • Raising the profile and reach of the discipline

What you’ll need

Essential:

  • Strong planning, organisational and operational skills
  • People skills to build and sustain strong and effective working relationships at all levels across BMX Freestyle
  • Skills and a track record of developing a sports development system from grassroots to performance
  • Strong influencing skills at a senior level and across the freestyle community 
  • Strong track record of innovation and creativity 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adaptable to different audiences and able to present complex messages in a compelling, relatable way
  • Experience of leading and managing multiple projects and monitoring delivery and disseminating key learnings.
  • Good presentation and interpersonal and skills.
