We are looking for a target driven individual to lead the food & beverage team at Sherwood Forest. This exciting opportunity is ideal for someone dynamic, self-motivated, and looking to make a real difference for nature and cultural heritage. 

This role is fundamental in leading the integration and delivery of all food & beverage elements across the site, creating exemplar customer experiences, with the aim of maximising income generation for RSPB Sherwood Forest.

The successful candidate will have team management experience in the food & beverage industry at a busy site.  They will also demonstrate success in building strong working relationships and posses the energy and initiative to drive plans and projects forward as an individual and as part of a high performing team.

About Sherwood Forest 

Sherwood is a landscape thousands of years in the making, alive with nature, history and folklore.  Today Sherwood is a magical destination, home to the enduring legend of Robin Hood & the famous Major Oak, estimated to be more than 1,000 years old.  We care for over 1,000 acres of ancient woodland and rolling heathland which is home to thousands of species of bird, insect, mammal, fungi, tree and plant.  Wooded for centuries & once part of a vast royal hunting ground, for the 350,000 people who come to Sherwood Forest each year it is an incredible place to visit, boasting a unique collection of ancient oaks which have been thriving here for over 600 years.

About the role 

We are looking for a performance driven individual to lead and drive commercial profitability through the food & beverage team at Sherwood.  You will lead a team whose focus will be exceptional customer service.  You will work with your team peers and consultants to identify how food & beverage forms part of the wider offer at Sherwood and identify opportunities where food & beverage can be present as part of the wider visitor offer.      

You will be involved in setting the strategies and targets for your team and focus delivery through key result areas.  The ideal candidate will have experience of managing/supervising a team in a high volume, fast paced catering environment.  You will have experience of menu development and understand pricing strategies.  You will understand commercial budgets and be able to make informed business decisions on this information.  Being target-driven will be key to this role, and you will need to have the ability to prioritise work and plan effectively using tools such as a project management framework when trialling new concepts.

You will be responsible for

  • Leading a large diverse high performing team
  • Ensuring that the commercial team is delivering the highest standards, resulting in a high-quality visitor experience
  • Monitoring and achieving against agreed targets and KPI's for income generation 
  • Ensuring all catering administration, operating processes, security, food hygiene, health & safety adhere to the RSPB procedures
  • Managing recruitment, inductions and ongoing development of staff and volunteers
  • Responsible for planning the efficient day to day running of the café

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • NVQ or HND in Hospitality and Catering or equivalent 
  • Level 3 Supervising Food Safety 
  • Experience of managing and delivering targets and KPI's in hospitality
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting financial data in a hospitality environment
  • Experience of working with stock management systems and stock control 
  • Successful experience of managing/supervising and developing a diverse team 
  • Computer literate with experience of Outlook, Excel, Work, Teams
  • Working knowledge and experience of delivering customer service techniques 
  • Sound understanding of systems and procedures necessary to run a commercial food & beverage operation 
  • Excellent verbal & written communications skills
  • Ability to plan and prioritise work loads 
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to manage and respond to customer needs and feedback
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • Proven track record of managing/supervising a successful food & beverage operation  
  • Experience of working at a busy catering site or visitor attraction 
  • Working knowledge of health & safety in a hospitality environment
  • GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent
