The Role

As an Additional Learning Support Mentor (Specific Learning Difficulties) you will work as part of our specialist and multi-disciplinary ALS team. You will assess additional learning support needs of learners at the college using relevant diagnostic tools to identify and implement support strategies.

You will adopt a proactive approach to planning, developing, monitoring and recording students’ progress, and take a lead in ensuring appropriate learning and achievement takes places for our ALS students. As the ALS mentor will you be confident in supporting a complex, diverse and special educational needs cohort, ensuring our students are equipped with the right skills and tools to ensure academic excellence. You will bring a wealth of knowledge, innovation and creativity to our department to ensure the best outcomes for each learner.

Actively contributing to the marketing of the ALS service in a positive way and liaising with relevant staff and external organisations regarding the support needs, progress and participation of individual students you will continuoulsy raise awareness of the effects of Specific Learning Difficulties

The Person

You will be fully qualified with extensive and proven experience as an ALS Mentor with sound knowledge in Specific Learning Difficulties and how to support students in achieving academic success.

You will be an effective communicator with the ability to work at all levels and support students with tailored individual learning plans which reflect their various support needs in the context of their individual learning requirements

In Addition you will have:

  • Excellent administration, organisational and communication skills
  • Qualified at Postgraduate level
  • Extensive experience in implementing highly successful support for students with specific learning difficulties and disabilities
  • Theoretical knowledge in the Assessment of SpLD or equivalent
  • Current knowledge and experience of using a range of materials, resources and assistive technologies for learners with SpLDs.

Hours: 37 hours

Tenure: Perm, Term Time Only (40 weeks)

Salary Scale: S02 £29,030 - £29,802 per annum
