Specific Responsibilities:

Support the students by:

  1. Undertaking activities with either individuals or groups of students to ensure their safety and facilitate their educational, physical and emotional development
  2. Carrying out pre-determined educational activities and work programmes whilst promoting independent learning
  3. Working to establish a supportive relationship with students and parents concerned
  4. Promoting and re-enforcing the students’ self-esteem
  5. Assisting students with personal care and medical requirements
  6. Supervising identified students during lesson, break and lunch times
  7. Be a key worker for identified individual students
  8. Effectively communicating with parents and other stakeholders
  9. Supporting the Breakfast Club

Support the teacher by:

  1. Monitoring individual student’s physical needs and reporting these to their designated supervisor as appropriate
  2. Assisting the SENCO in the smooth transition between educational phases
  3. Delivering specific interventions to groups and individuals
  4. Assisting with supporting progress and achievement in and out of class, under the direction of the teacher
  5. Prepare and develop programs to support students meet their physical care needs
  6. Having flexibility to work in a range of settings inside the school and on outside educational trips

Support the school by:

  1. Being aware of the school’s policies and procedures
  2. Being aware of confidential issues linked to home/student/teacher/school work and to keep confidences where appropriate
  3. Undertake development work by attending in and out of house training i.e. self-development activities commensurate with the role
  4. Attending whole school briefings and all in-house training events
  5. Assisting in mentor time each morning, setting and reviewing targets and providing pastoral support to ensure the well-being of mentees
  6. Supervising groups of students outside lesson time to ensure health, safety and emotional wellbeing of vulnerable students
  7. Involvement in extra-curricular activities

General Responsibilities

  1. To take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and other persons who may be affected by their activities and where appropriate, safeguarding the health and safety of persons under their control and guidance in accordance with the provision of Health and Safety legislation
  2. To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact with during the course of your duties and responsibilities.  Your conduct must at all times in in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures
  3. To report any causes for concern relating to the welfare and safety of children to the designated person and the Head Teacher or if unavailable the designated safeguarding governor or a member of the Senior Leadership Team
  4. To attend safeguarding training as required by the school and maintain your knowledge and understanding of your responsibility for safeguarding children in this school
  5. Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that normally any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms.
