Operating from Royal Museums Greenwich, National Historic Ships - UK (NHS - UK) acts as the primary source of objective advice to the government and Heritage Lottery Fund on historic ship preservation and funding priorities. As the principal national focus for all matters relating to ship preservation, it also provides expert and informed advice to a range of organisations.
As Director, you will co-ordinate the work of a small team of staff and volunteers as you oversee the direction and management of NHS – UK. Playing a key role in the implementation of a national policy for historic vessels, your focus will be on providing inspirational leadership and strategic vision, building the credibility and reputation of NHS – UK and the Advisory Council across the sector.
In all of this, you will champion the value of the historic ship sector for the conservation and interpretation of our national heritage, as well as the economic regeneration, social development, education and learning opportunities that it brings.
With proven experience at Director/Chief Executive level in a related field, you will need to be financially and commercially astute with excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Practical experience of policy development and implementation is also important, combined with the credibility to advise ministers and those at senior level in both the public and private sectors. In addition, you should have the ability to develop sound working relationships with all stakeholders and represent NHS – UK at conferences, public meetings and in the media.
The post operates 32 hours per week.
