Milton Keynes College Prison Education Team at HMP Gartree are looking for new staff to teach Multi Skills to a diverse group of learners. This is based within the prison itself.

We are looking for individuals with the below skillsets to join the Education Team at HMP Gartree.

  • Multi Skills – such as Painting & Decorating, Bricklaying, Plastering, Carpentry, Tiling, Construction, Handyman/DIY

If you are not already a teacher this should not stop you reading on and getting in touch. If you do not currently possess a teaching qualification but are willing to work towards one, Milton Keynes College can support training.

Hours: Ad hoc / Permanent Opportunities
Salary: Occasional - £23.52 (per hour), Permanent – Up to £32,578 per annum (Full Time)
Prison Open Visit: Feb/March 2020

About HMP Gartree:

HMP Gartree is a Cat B lifer prison which houses just over 700 life sentence prisoners. The education department offers a wide range of courses which include Functional Skills maths and English and ESOL, a wide range of GCSE’s, Peer Mentoring and a good suite of both Art and ICT qualifications that include Web design and E-image. NVQ’s in Catering are also delivered with excellent facilities and” hands on” experience in our own Flavours staff restaurant.

We are a small department who are passionate about our learners, strive for quality and believe we can help change lives through learning. We have successful working relationships with all the other agencies in the prison who value our contribution to the lifer journey and beyond.

Prison education runs all year round, all day Monday-Thursday and until lunchtime on a Friday. Class times at HMP Gartree are 08:30 – 11:45am for the morning sessions, and 1:45 – 4:45pm for the afternoon sessions within an overall 08:00-17:00 day.

*Please note successful candidates are required to undertake National Offender Management Service (NOMS) Clearance before being able to commence with any role.  The process of obtaining clearance can take anywhere from 3 weeks upwards and the outcome is not controlled by the College or the individual prison.

The College offers a broad range of qualifications with more than 3,000 16 – 18-year-old full-time students studying vocational courses, apprenticeships and Higher Education at our campuses in Milton Keynes. In addition, the College delivers employability and skills training programmes to 3,000 people in local community learning centres. For nearly 30 years, we have worked with offenders in both custody, and the wider community and currently work with 19 prisons across England; this includes 13 prisons, which make up the Long Term High Security Estate, and 6 category B, C & D men’s prisons.
