Milton Keynes College are working in partnership with HMP Spring Hill / Grendon to put education at the heart of the prison system.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Programme Manager / Curriculum Leader to enhance the delivery of our construction courses and develop a succesful carpentry course.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated programme manager / curriculum leader to deliver learner success, through effective leadership within our Construction programme. This vacancy would suit a highly motivated programme manager that specialises in Carpentry and has a positive can do approach to education and the success of their students. The ideal candidate will have experience and success in their knowledge area Carpentry and experience of managing a team.

HMP Grendon is a unique Therapeutic Category B national prison housing approximately 220 long term, prolific (re)offending adult males. The Education Department works closely with our prison colleagues to deliver relevant long courses that help prepare learners for employment and positive community living upon release. Education runs 4 afternoons (Mon – Thurs) from 13:45- 16:45. During the mornings, the men are involved in therapy work with wide team of clinical and officer staff on the wings.

HMP Spring Hill is an Open Category D (resettlement) prison, housing approximately 320 male prisoners who are at the end of their custodial sentence and working towards resettlement. Education runs from 8:30 – 11:30 Monday to Friday and 13:00 – 16:00 Monday to Thursday.

As a successful candidate you will have:

  • A degree or vocational qualification (Level 2 or above) in a Carpentry.
  • A teaching qualification (QTLS as appropriate).
  • Assessor/Verifier Awards (desirable).
  • Have teaching experience in Carpentry with relevant up-to-date knowledge.
  • Understanding of the necessary employability skills required in the current UK economy.
  • Evidence of providing high quality effective programmes leading to outstanding success.
  • Experience of data analysis.
  • Experience of identifying, developing and sharing resources focused on teaching and learning.
  • Experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
  • Knowledge of current relevant initiatives within the Offender Learning.
  • The requirement of this role is to work across the whole prison estate, on all wings where education is delivered.

Location: HMP Spring Hill / Grendon

Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Salary: £28,940 - £34,327 per annum
