We now have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our team as a Head of Education who will be a trusted and key advisor to the Cycling Delivery Director, the Education Department and colleagues across the business.

The role of the Head of Education is:
  • Maintain and monitor the British Cycling Education strategy: by building on our recent Education review, putting in place the necessary steps with the team, key internal stakeholders, external parties/regulatory bodies and customers. Work towards British Cycling being recognised as a sector thought leader in Education with high quality learner centred products and courses. 
  • Increasing the commercial viability of Education: by identifying and defining an Education commercial revenue generation strategy that utilises our existing network of volunteers and partnerships to bring about a step change in revenue generation. Bringing customer satisfaction, quality assurance and profitability metrics together to assess existing products and identifying new products to drive growth in awareness and accessibility to our products and services and identify attractive revenue models to drive non-grant funding revenue growth.
  • Embracing the growth opportunity offered through Digital and Data innovation: accelerating the Education strategy through the innovative use of Digital technology to reach out and improve our customer experience and range of formal and informal learning opportunities. Through the development of improved customer data insight, drive improved product development and delivery across all channels and increase awareness and accessibility to our products and services.
  • Business Transformation: through continuous improvement, ensure efficiencies and tangible benefits are delivered back into the business through a structured and systematic approach to business change management. Document and deliver the key transformational steps required to implement an Education Transformation programme, identify the key risks and corresponding mitigation; develop the communications and change management approach to embed the new organisational structure into the existing business.
  • Education Leadership and Engagement: replicating new agile methodologies and approaches found across modern business, improved financial tracking and management, quality and risk management, people development and performance management, embed new ways of working which take the education team forward with improved effectiveness, employee engagement and efficiencies that meet the expectations of the business strategy.
  • Educational philosophy: Develop and embed a consistent learning philosophy across all products and services which embraces modern learning methodologies which is cascaded to all tutors in order to develop a high quality, solution focused workforce who are curious, empowered and supported in their roles.

You’ll come up with ideas to drive the Education team forward and work cross functionally with our Regional teams and support network at the HSBC UK National Cycling Centre to promote education at British Cycling. In return for delivering consistent and transformational results, you’ll receive the opportunity to learn and develop, as well as exciting opportunities to broaden your role and grow within the organisation.

The skills, knowledge and experience we are looking for are:
  • A comprehensive background in executing agile strategic planning initiatives (Discovery, Development, Go / No-Go Evaluation, Implementation and Retirement) in sporting or related industry.
  • Identified as a commercial influencer with a significant track record of transforming education teams into market leading commercial entities delivering the highest standards of education and training, delivering year on year non-linear growth in sales and revenue.
  • Has led or has been instrumental in a large business transformation programme in the past, including organisational redesign, role mapping, recruitment, training and development; preferably with a history in embedding and establishing new ways of working and improving culture and employee engagement.
  • Demonstrable experience in identifying, managing and delivering technical or digital education toolsets or equivalent from concept to implementation and embedment.
  • Recognised as an authority in their Education amongst internal and external peers through the demonstration of continued learning, expertise and practice that has shaped and influenced the sector.
  • Degree, or equivalent experience, in Physical Education, Cycle Coaching, Sports Science and Coaching, or teaching/lecturing preferred.
  • High level of knowledge of coaching or teaching theory and practice, developing innovative approaches to the learning experience and the curriculum with original content and methodology.
  • Experience in detailed planning/project management and the successful delivery of projects/performance.
