RSPB England has an exciting opportunity for a skilled project manager to lead an innovative new project in Birmingham, working within the England Engagement team.

In order to effect the change that nature’s recovery needs, more, and more diverse people need to be enabled to act for nature. The Naturally Connected Communities Birmingham project will engage families, young people, and primary-age children from diverse social backgrounds, connecting them more meaningfully to nature on their doorstep, and encouraging action that matters to them. The project will demonstrate the difference that communities can make for nature and how nature can benefit communities by having a positive impact on health and wellbeing.

Working with and through partners and stakeholders - The Prince’s Trust, Birmingham Open Spaces Forum, community groups and teachers - the project will explore approaches that empower, upskill and give confidence to others, enabling them to inspire families, children and young people to make the difference that nature needs.

The Birmingham Community Project Manager will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of an 18-month project which will test and trial ways to engage with new audiences, through three defined project workstreams, each working with a local or national partner. This is a pilot project, funded by the Green Recovery Challenge Fund, and will provide learning and insight to inform the potential for future roll-out of activities across the UK.

The project manager will have experience of successfully delivering new initiatives within communities. They will have a passion for inspiring young people and families, and will use their experience and enthusiasm to support others to build a local movement for nature.

Leading a team who will deliver the project outputs, you will be responsible for keeping overall project progress on track, ensuring partners and stakeholders remain informed, risks are managed, budget is adhered to and funder requirements are met. You will work alongside the Project Executive as well as RSPB education, families and youth specialists and partners to drive the project forward, measure its impact and secure its legacy.

Alongside project management experience, the successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing a team, as well as effective partnership working and stakeholder management.

  • Project Management experience, including data gathering and report writing.
  • Demonstrable leadership ability, including line managing a multidisciplinary team.

This role is based in Birmingham, with the option for the successful candidate to be either dual located working between home and the RSPB’s central Birmingham office as the business need requires or fully based in the Birmingham office if preferred.
