The V&A Research Institute (VARI) is part of the Collections Division and conducts, facilitates and promotes research across all aspects of the Museum’s collections and activities. 

The V&A is a partner to the UAL Business of Fashion, Textiles and Technology, Creative R&D Partnership, as part of the Creative Industries Cluster Programme, funded by the Industrial Strategy, delivered by AHRC.

The Research Fellow role with the V&A will support the project’s Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators in the delivery of the project challenge: Rethinking material resources and technical opportunities

This challenge focuses on the development of new sustainable fibres from waste materials, utilising knowledge from textile and manufacturing history as well as state-of-the-art research in the field.  

The Fellow will work in collaboration with V&A researchers, curators and conservators, the UAL Principal Investigator, industry partners and co-Investigators at other institutions, including the University of Leeds, to identify opportunities to grow value in the fashion, textiles and technology supply chain, identifying potential for the use of circular materials and associated critical paths.  

This role is a fixed term contract with flexibility to work either full time (36 hours per week) or part time (27 hours per week).
