This is a new fixed-term (two year) position, created to embed expertise within the institution and to implement systemic change in operations and behaviours. The role sits within the Estate department and will require extensive inter-departmental collaboration with colleagues working in, for example, exhibitions, finance, digital, projects, design, marketing and communications, visitor experience, curatorial and collections.

The post holder will act as sustainability champion, leading the museum’s drive to improve its environmental performance across all its activities, generating cultural and behavioural change throughout the organisation.

The post holder will promote sustainable practice and propose opportunities to increase the effectiveness of sustainability integration in all aspects of the museum’s operations.

By the end of the two-year term the postholder will be expected to have delivered demonstrable improvements across a range of sustainability /environmental areas, as well as having generated a genuine shift in culture, ensuring care for the environment is woven into everything we do.

In this key influential role, the Sustainability Officer will lead on environmental compliance to enable departments and project working groups to deliver the museum's objective of operating efficiently and minimising environmental impact. The post holder will also need to take a hands-on approach to achieve changes in behaviour and the approach to sustainability and the environment.
