Championing a lifelong passion for cycling

Why British Cycling?

British Cycling is the national governing body for cycling in Britain, working to lead the sport of cycling and inspire our communities – whether they’re competing at the highest level for Great Britain, volunteering, or just riding for fun. From winning Olympic and Paralympic gold medals to getting almost two million people to ride their bikes regularly, we are one of the world’s most successful sports governing bodies. Supported by our new strategy, Lead Our Sport, Inspire Our Communities, we have bold ambitions to grow the sport’s eight disciplines, make cycling more diverse and accessible, provide life-changing experiences for children and young people and grow our 149,000-strong membership.

Are you a communications professional with a track record of working in a high-performance sport environment? Are you inspired to tell cycling’s great stories and to demonstrate the wider social benefits of our sport? Are you driven by the opportunity to use great internal communications to support great performances? Do you have a track record of delivering impactful stakeholder engagement in support of strategic objectives?

We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join us as a Communications Manager for the Great Britain Cycling Team.

In this role of GBCT Communications Manager you will develop, agree and deliver a communications strategy across three workstreams:

  • media and public relations which maximise the impact of the team’s achievements on British Cycling’s strategy ‘Lead Our Sport, Inspire Our Communities’
  • great internal communications in support of great performances
  • stakeholder engagement which protects and promotes the reputation of the Great Britain Cycling Team with key funders and supporters

 What do we offer?

As well as a great starting salary you will be included in the company pension plan and benefit from 23 days holiday. We also offer free parking, annual social events, an opportunity to apply for the cycle to work scheme, company perks and discount scheme. You’ll build and sustain strong effective working relationships at all levels across British Cycling. You’ll identify areas for development and develop potential recommendations overcoming barriers and developing relationships. In return for delivering consistent results, you’ll receive the opportunity to learn and develop, as well as exciting opportunities to broaden your role and potentially move around the organisation.

What you need is:

We are keen to hear from candidates with sound knowledge of cycling and/or sport. Candidates should be aware of the current developments in the sport and its place in the high-performance sector in the UK, as well as the wider social impacts of cycling, and should have a track record of working in an elite sport environment. This is a profession that is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check will be required.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of age, race, colour, sex, marital status, religion, ethnic origin, nationality, disability or sexual orientation.  Any appointment will be made on merit alone.  For more information on British Cycling please visit the following page www.britishcycling.org.uk
