The Word & Image Department (WID) has vacancies for four Apprentices to join the team of Service Assistants working in the National Art Library, providing access to the V&A’s collection of approximately 1 million printed, manuscript, and electronic resources.  The Service Assistants work both in the Library stores and on the public service counters, and are an essential part of the service the Department offers to the public.  In the post, you will gain skills in customer service, information organisation and retrieval, basic preservation techniques, and object handling.  You will also be working towards gaining the BIIAB Certificate/Diploma in Libraries, Archives and Information Services, level 2/3.

We are looking for someone with a real enthusiasm for working with the public, with good communication skills and the ability to handle books and paper objects with care and to pay attention to detail. An interest in information provision, art and design and the cultural heritage sector would be beneficial.

WID is responsible for the Museum’s collections of prints, drawings, paintings, photographs, designs, computer art, books and archives.  A proportion of WID collections can be seen both in the permanent galleries and on display in temporary exhibitions.  Our stored collections are accessible through our 3 study rooms: the National Art Library, the Prints & Drawings Study Room and the Blythe House Archive & Library Study Room.

Closing date for receipt of applications is Monday 15th July 2019, midnight.
