Conservation/ Listed Buildings Officer

Salary £36,867 - £40,872 per annum

Permanent

The five existing councils of Buckinghamshire – Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe District Councils and Buckinghamshire County Council - are developing plans to create a new unitary council, Buckinghamshire Council, by 1st April 2020. This is an exciting opportunity for all the councils in the county to come together to build a brand new council for Buckinghamshire, that will provide all council services in the county, and will build on the best experience and expertise of the five current councils. We are developing plans to build a new unitary council that is ambitious in its outlook, provides Buckinghamshire residents with simpler ways to access services that they need, and makes best use of public money.

Chiltern and South Bucks District Councils have established a shared Planning Service to serve both authorities. The Listed Building/Conservation Officer post is based in the Strategic Sites and Specialists Team, and will also support the Development Management Area Teams and the Enforcement Team. Key areas of work will be to provide pre-application advice; provide specialist advice on applications for listed building consent, and applications affecting the special architectural/historic interest of conservation areas; defend the Council’s decisions at appeal; find solutions to buildings at risk; liaising with Heritage England; and the investigation of unauthorised works to listed buildings. You will also work closely with the existing shared Planning Policy Team in relation to conservation area reviews and designations.

Chiltern and South Bucks have already achieved a considerable amount, having implemented a shared management team and shared team structures and consequently have a lot to be proud of.  This now fuels our ambition as we enter the next phase of our transformation, embedding our values into everything we do to become a truly customer focused organisation. This is an ideal time for you to join us in this important post.  These continue to be exciting times for our Councils and you will be at the very heart of what is to come.

Whether you are looking for your next step up or are seeking a new challenge you will be passionate and collaborative, bringing a passion for the historic environment, with problem solving skills and a positive development management ethos. You will be a skilled historic environment specialist with a degree/diploma in historic conservation, architectural conservation, architecture or a very closely related subject.
