Being an effective teacher

  • To deliver lessons that are typically good over time. Please see National Standards for Teachers for individual skills.

 

Leading Teaching and Learning

  • To ensure that the quality of teaching and learning ensures at least expected progress of students throughout the department.
  • To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others through observation and peer support.
  • To ensure that literacy and numeracy are given a high profile within teaching and assessment.
  • To follow the Academy Appraisal Policy, setting challenging objectives and reviewing progress against them.

 

Leading accountable for professional development

  • To take an active part in performance management, team and academy wide professional development opportunities.
  • To share good practice across the team and academy through ‘Magpie Walks’ and the use if ‘Iris’.

 

Being accountable for Standards and Progress

  • To raise standards of student achievement so they are at least in line with national averages.
  • To ensure that exam results/ teacher assessments show added value against student starting points.
  • To follow the ‘Academy Achievement Strategy’; to monitor student progress and create intervention procedures as a teacher if students are off target.
  • To complete the annual exam review document and have clear knowledge/ understanding of successes and areas of development.

 

Leading Assessment/Reporting

  • To implement the academy marking/assessment policy.
  • To monitor the quality of students work/ assessment, sharing good practice and intervening where the policy is not being met.
  • To monitor the accuracy of tracking information and annual reports.
  • To create a programme of on-going moderation to ensure levels/ grades are consistently awarded.

 

 

Leading Curriculum Development

  • To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum
  • To lead the development of appropriate syllabuses and schemes of learning that ensure progression of knowledge and skills.
  • To ensure the curriculum is up to date with national/ local/ exam board developments.
  • To ensure that the Academy Home Learning Policy is implemented and is effective in supporting student progress.

 

Being accountable for resources

  • To effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff and physical resources within the team to ensure maximum impact on student progress.

 

Being accountable for the Learning Environment

  • To ensure that the appearance and ambiance of the classroom in the subject is conducive to learning and promotes pride and high expectations.
  • To ensure that the ‘Encouraging Positive Behaviour Policy’ is implemented consistently so that effective learning can occur.
  • To ensure that the subject area is safe and report any Health and Safety concerns. To ensure Risk Assessments are updated annually or after an incident.
