The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen at MedCity, for a talented and ambitious individual keen to develop in their career as Projects Manager alongside a growing business in the Life Sciences sector. Founded in 2014, by the Mayor of London and the three London Academic Health Science Centres (Imperial AHSC, King’s Health Partners and UCLPartners) with London, Cambridge and Oxford AHSCs on the management board.

MedCity aims to promote England’s south-east as a world-leading, interconnected region for life sciences research, development, manufacturing and commercialisation to stimulate greater economic growth.

MedCity is now looking to appoint an enthusiastic and driven projects manager to join the team to lead the successful delivery of a number of projects, with a particular focus on delivering our successful Angels in MedCity programme. The successful candidate will also form part of the team who delivers our “front door” service and is expected to build up knowledge and expertise in relation to funding and investment issues in the life sciences and healthcare sectors.

This role offers the ideal opportunity for an individual educated to degree level looking for broad experience in working with local government, NHS, Academia, Industry and the investor community. 

Key responsibilities

As a small and agile organisation, all team members are expected to contribute to a range of our activities, while taking the lead for certain areas of work. The following provides a good indication of the role and responsibilities, but this should be seen as a guide and activities may not be limited to those detailed below.

 

Angels in MedCity

·         Ensure that the Angels in MedCity programme continues to operate successfully and that excellent relationships are maintained

·         Take the lead from the MedCity side in setting up events, & working in partnership with London Business Angels

·         Develop the skills to be able to assess the potential of companies/innovators that approach MedCity looking for investment, with particular focus on those approaching the Angels in MedCity programme

·         Ensure that the Angels in MedCity advisory group meets on a regular basis and that they have opportunity to contribute fully to the direction and design of the programme

·         Provide signposting to existing projects to further sources of funding/investment/further collaboration

·         Identify and build a group of supporters for the programme, including those willing to contribute financially to the operation of the programme

·         Ensure relevant communication to stakeholders and appropriate stakeholder management to promote engagement and ensure delivery of their obligations

 

Other areas of responsibility and projects

·         Working with MedCity’s research analyst, take responsibility for management of MedCity’s map of companies (medcitymap.com)

·         Develop effective working relationships with relevant staff and teams within academic institutions across the region

·         Share knowledge and insight within the team and as an expert to customers as appropriate

·         Lead on events and initiatives to promote the programme and outcomes

·         Providing expertise to the team and MedCity customers on investment and queries

 You’ll have:

·         Relevant professional qualification and/or science degree with good scientific and technical literacy.

·         Proven experience of project management and successful delivery

·         Strong organisational capabilities including proven judgement

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

·         Strong ability to manage diverse stakeholders and keep them engaged

·         Willing and able to be the face of the programme and presenting to diverse audiences

·         Well-developed analytical skills, with the ability to use data in a variety of ways.
