ABOUT US

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity.  We want to see a world where trees and woods thrive for people and nature. The Trust engages and inspires people to make their difference tackling the nature and climate crisis helping protect, restore and create our vital woods and trees.

THE ROLE

This role is generously funded by the Pears #iWill Fund, which is supported by funding from Pears Foundation, The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport. As part of the Woodland Trust’s strategy to 2030, there is renewed focus on engaging young people with the work of the Trust. Therefore, the Head of Youth Re-imagined is a newly created role to transform our relationship with young people. The focus of this role in the initial phase is to kick-start the new strategy and lay the foundations for successful engagement. This will involve:

  • Developing a compelling narrative for Youth Re-imagined, in order to support fundraising efforts with relevant teams across the Trust
  • Providing credible and inspirational leadership, supporting the Executive and other staff in achieving a shared vision for and with young people
  • Establishing metrics and monitoring key performance indicators linked to agreed Youth Re-imagined objectives
  • Co-designing innovative initiatives that will bring young people’s ideas and perspectives into the Trust’s strategy, decision-making and communications
  • Responsibility for the Youth Re-imagined budget spend and management account responsibility, including grant management, whilst understanding and collaborating on the resource demands elsewhere in the organisation
  • Being responsible for developing and managing a small Youth Re-imagined dedicated team

THE CANDIDATE

You’ll be a strategic leader with experience of enabling organisational change and continuous improvement. You will also be an effective communicator with the ability to engage and influence the decisions and actions of others. Being an expert in the development and delivery of strategies that embed young people across an organisation you will also have good knowledge of legislation and policies designed to safeguard children and vulnerable adults.

You’ll be an experienced senior manager with the ability to nurture a new team and excellent relationship management skills enabling you to develop strong partnerships across sectors and with key stakeholders.

WHAT TO EXPECT BY JOINING A TEAM AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE

There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Joining the team you will be making your contribution to tackling the nature and climate crisis. In return, we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance, good holiday allowance and the opportunity to work flexibly from home.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

At the Woodland Trust, we believe everyone deserves to have their lives enriched by trees and woods.

We also believe that our organisation should reflect and represent the full richness of human diversity in terms of background, identity, ability and circumstance. As groups of people currently underrepresented as Woodland Trust employees, we are particularly keen to receive your application if you are Black, Asian or minority ethnic, disabled or under 25. We are measuring our success in redressing this.

We are open to discussion of any adjustments or flexible working arrangements you may need to achieve your full potential at any stage of the process, and if you are successful in gaining a position with us, during employment.

We promise the only thing we assess within your application is how you have demonstrated your suitability for the job, and nothing else.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we find the suitable candidate before the closing date.

Our Hybrid working model is an expectation of working from the office a minimum of twice a month – this may vary from role to role.
