This Independent Boarding and Day School in North Essex requires a suitably experienced and qualified Commis Chef to join our Senior School Catering Team. Shortlisted for the Self-Managed School Caterer of the Year Award in 2019, our kitchen brigade serve thousands of meals each week. We offer a wide selection of cooked food for our boarders at breakfast and supper, and service to the whole school community at lunch with daily specials that include international-themed food, street food and meat free-Tuesdays. The main duties will involve assisting in the prompt and efficient preparation and service of all meals to the highest standards, together with maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen to ensure compliance with legal and company regulations regarding hygiene, health and safety. The role also involves assisting with maintenance of the goods received system, and monitoring production and wastage levels.

It is essential that the successful candidate holds a food hygiene certificate, at least an NVQ Level 2 in Hospitality and Catering (or an equivalent) and has a keen interest in the associated duties of working in a fast-paced catering environment. A positive ‘can-do’ attitude to customer service, excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and contribute within a team are vital.

This role is a permanent position working 24 hours per week over five days during term-time, plus six weeks during July and August (40 weeks per year). The starting salary for this role is £11,388.85 per annum.
