We are seeking an experienced sculpture conservator with a clear strength in pietre dure to undertake the conservation, research and documentation of a group of objects from the Gilbert Collection which have been in inaccessible storage for an extended period of time.
You will have a recognised qualification in in the conservation of objects, with at least three years demonstrable post-qualification practical experience. You will also have a good knowledge of the materials and techniques of hardstone and stone conservation. This includes a sound understanding of the material properties of hard stones and mechanisms of deterioration. The ability to evaluate conservation problems, develop solutions and produce practical work and documentation of a high standard within tight deadlines will be important to making the role a success. You will undertake aspects of practical preventive and interventive conservation, predominantly on pietre dure objects, but will also have a practical knowledge of the conservation of stone, wood, and metal to enable you assess and examine objects within the Gilbert Collection.
