MK College Group are recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant who has a holistic approach to highlighting learning needs and disabilities. You will be part of the Education Team based on site at HMP Winchester. Training can be provided for the right candidate.

As a successful Learning Support Assistant you will provide inspirational and creative learning support to small groups of learners and on a 1:1 basis. Your focus will be on Maths and English and improving learner skills, leading to employability outcomes, with effective target setting to meet individual needs. The ability to build good working relationships with learners is a key aspect of the role to help them overcome negative experiences that may be a barrier to reaching their potential.

As a Learning Support Assistant you will be working across the whole prison, on all wings where education is delivered. This is a varied and interesting role with the opportunity to see learners develop and achieve. The Education department runs morning and afternoon lessons, Monday to Thursday, and Friday mornings. Lessons start at 8:30am and 1:45pm respectively and tutors are expected to be in the department at least 15 minutes before the start of the lesson. Morning lessons last 3 hours (until 11:30) and afternoon lessons are 2.75 hours (until 16:30).

ABOUT HMP WINCHESTER

HMP/YOI Winchester is a busy Category B/C Local prison housing both sentenced and remand prisoners from the age of 18.  The Education Department delivers relevant short courses that help prepare learners for employment upon release in three different Education areas in the prison. 

Courses include: English and Maths Functional Skills (Entry 1 to Level 2), ESOL, ICT, Art, Cookery, Employability Skills, and Barbering. We also work closely with our prison colleagues to provide embedded Employability skills in the prison workshops for Carpentry, Recycling, Textiles and Enterprise Services.
