RSPB Scotland has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, positive and self-motivated Project Manager. They will be responsible for updating and developing a rainforest restoration project upon Morvern, working with colleagues within the Argyll Arran and Ardnamurchan team.

*Whilst project management experience would be welcome, we are more interested in who you are and what you want to achieve; we'll provide support for candidates with less experience, but the right talent mix. Initially for 2 years but with the aim of securing a longer-term position for another 3+ years.

What's the role about? 

Rainforest is a priority habitat for RSPB, with Morvern being an ideal area for landscape scale restoration. This role will work closely with the conservation and reserve staff to develop a rainforest restoration project.

We are seeking someone with a passion and an interest in delivering landscape scale outcomes for both nature and communities. Your priorities will include, establishing a native tree nursery; assessing interest of communities and landowners/managers and identifying shared outcomes across the landscape; a resurvey of Rhododendron and forming/implementing a programme for its eradication; developing woodland plans / providing landowner advice and project costings. Thereby successfully delivering outputs and objectives for RSPB’s Argyll-Morvern rainforest priority landscape.

• Responsible for developing and keeping the project on track producing relevant documentation.

• Estimate and manage the projects duration planning activities and events.

• Keep staff, stakeholders, etc, fully involved and informed.

• Identify, record, manage and communicate risks and issues, apply contingency actions.

• Manage project budgets within agreed tolerances.

• Manage changes to project and ensure progress.

What we need from you:

Essentials

• Track record of involvement in delivering projects, experience of benefits realisation and cost / budget management.

• Experience of applying a standard project management approach.

• Demonstrable leadership ability, problem solving skills and ability to find creative solutions.

• Partnership working - an ability to persuade and influence a wide range of people, both internally and externally.

• Produce clear written communications for varied audiences from local community to specialist conservation scientists.

• Logical & methodical, analytical, an eye for detail with time management skills.

• Able to work under pressure and manage changes within projects.

• Competent IT user with understanding of budgets/financial systems.

Desirables

• Project Management Qualification or appropriate training/experience.

• Conservation and or management knowledge in relevant areas, i.e. woodlands, along with habitat and species conservation/survey requirements.

• Experience of working with external stakeholders such as agencies and contractors.

• Understanding of the concept of landscape scale conservation and the pressures on land use in the operational area of this role.

Additional Information

This is a Fixed-Term, Full-Time role for 37.5hours per week. 

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
