Main tasks and responsibilities:
As part of a national initiative to teach coding to 16-18 year-olds, we are looking for volunteer mentors to assist with our monthly sessions at the Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre, Kidbrooke.
Supporting our Formal Learning Producer to run a coding club, this voluntary position is suited to skilled and passionate coding or programming enthusiasts who want to support the next generation of computer creatives.
We are looking for technically skilled mentors to help out, for a couple of hours a month, helping to share their knowledge with local young people. Whether you are a pro at Python, can write HTML blindfolded or love tinkering with hardware like Raspberry Pis and robotics, your knowledge and experience would be welcome at our CoderDojo!
Volunteering at a Dojo is an incredibly rewarding experience, and many mentors are surprised at how much they learn and gain from the experience. It gives you an opportunity to directly help children to learn how to code and be creative with technology. This role is perfect for those who want to develop teaching skills or be involved within a community of like-minded individuals.
The Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre (PPMCC) in Kidbrooke, London is a store for our collection as well as the centre for our conservation team, PPMCC also aims to become a community hub. PPMCC has been specially designed to have public facing learning and research spaces. The creation of this club aims to encourage creativity through technology within an arts and heritage environment.
Time commitment:
Our Dojo will meet for 2 hours on the 1st Saturday of each month. We request a minimum commitment of 3 months.
