EDS HV Group, as part of James Fisher Renewables provides turnkey asset management services to the offshore wind industry in the UK. At the heart of the EDS Asset Management Division is the EDS HV Control Centre which provides a range of real-time and near-time critical operational, safety and support functions as part of the overall turnkey package for windfarms and offshore transmission networks (OFTOs) within the portfolio.

As Control Room Services Development Manager, you will oversee all operations within the EDS HV Control Centre (EDSHVCC) and be the interface point between the EDSHVCC and other operational management and delivery functions within the Asset Management Division. You will be responsible for ensuring that the EDSHVCC is fully equipped and resourced to delivery 24/7 control centre operations in accordance with the requirements of the various asset management agreements in place.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Work closely with the Generation O&M Business Manager, OFTO O&M Business Manager and Head of Operations (hereafter referred to as the leadership of the Asset Management Division (AMD)) to fully understand the requirements of the EDSHVCC when delivering upon the services set out within EDS’s asset management contracts.
  • Work with the leadership of the Asset Management Division to define the necessary policies, procedures and solutions required to enable the EDSHVCC to provide a robust internal and external service offering.
  • Be responsible for implementing any policies, procedures and solutions resulting from point two above.
  • Manage the EDSHVCC’s team of Control Engineers.
  • Manage the EDSHVCC’s team of Surveillance Officers.
  • Be responsible for establishing and managing internal and external forums in relation to EDSHVCC operations to aid near-time, real-time and future operations.
  • Work in conjunction with the leadership of the Asset Management division to determine key performance indicators in order to monitor the quality of service provision and quickly identify areas for improvement.
  • Work in conjunction with the leadership of the Asset Management division when evaluating the future direction of the EDSHVCC, diversification of services, and general growth and expansion of the EDSHVCC. They will play a key role in advancing the EDSHVCC, ensuring it remains relevant and consistent with the needs of the industry and implementing change and growth initiatives for the provision of best-in-class services.
  • Work in conjunction with the appointed EDSHVCC Network Administrator to ensure the necessary networking and IT arrangements in are place for the provision of remote access to client SCADA platforms. Furthermore, they will work together to ensure that EDSHVCC operations are addressed and maintained within the overall EDS business continuity plan therefore ensuring that EDSHVCC operations can continue in the event of the various disaster recovery scenarios set out within the BCP.
  • Represent the EDSHVCC when engaging with clients on operational matters concerning the EDSHVCC
  • Work with the leadership of the Asset Management Division when representing the company or clients in meetings with industry stakeholders such as National Grid ESO, UK DNOs, other OFTOs etc.
  • Provide line-management support for the EDSHVCC staff ensuring there is a positive working culture within the team and a healthy work-life balance.
  • Work with the Head of Business Services and HR Shared Services to ensure all HR issues are managed appropriately and that progression and development within the EDSHVCC team is established and maintained

Knowledge, Skills, Experience, Qualifications:

Essential

  • Strong and demonstratable background working in near-time and/or real-time operations in a role where daily operational management, quick decision-making and problem-solving skills are required
  • A good understanding of the global offshore renewable energy sector 
  • Demonstrable previous experience in personnel management, team leadership and motivation
  • Previous experience working with contracts, or working to a defined contract scope
  • Previous experience interfacing with external and internal third parties
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and common IT practices
  • Ability to react with shifting business priorities and therefore a natural ability to prioritise work loads
  • A problem-solving attitude and solutions driven individual.
  • Experience being independent and working remotely, with proficiency utilising video conferencing software (e.g. Skype/Teams) for team engagement.
  • Manage own time and set targets and objectives in line with the company and departmental targets
  • Previous experience of providing support to senior management and/or demonstrated organisational skills.
  • Abilities to communicate effectively in meetings, open forums and in presentations
  • Self-motivated and able to motivate others.
  • Valid Driving License.
  • Valid UK and/or EU Passport.
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development.

Desirable

  • Experience working within the electricity utility sector or private/commercial electricity network design/construction/operations/consultancy industry
  • An authorisation (either current or previous) under a safe system of work for operation and execution of work on transmission and distribution electricity networks (e.g. – Senior Authorised Person or Control Person)
  • A good understanding of the UK electricity industry and the roles of the various stakeholders (i.e., DNO, Generator, System Operator, Regulator etc.)

Qualifications

  • It is desirable for candidates to be professionally qualified in an electrical engineering discipline; however significant and demonstrable industry experience is in conjunction with applicable engineering qualifications and industry trade-body recognition.
