Are you a commercial or contracts professional, keen to challenge yourself in a demanding yet diverse role which offers the opportunity to drive improvements in commercial and operational delivery for the largest light rail system in the UK?

This is a busy and exciting time for TfGM: under the devolution agreement and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London.

More specifically to Metrolink, since 2010, the network has tripled in size to become the largest light rail system in the UK.  It now consists of 120 trams serving 93 stops and circa 97 km of track which spans seven of Greater Manchester’s ten districts.  In this time, patronage has more than doubled from circa 19 million journeys per year to 42 million, with further patronage growth projected over the coming years to enhance Metrolink’s status as an iconic Manchester brand.  However, we are not stopping there….

Metrolink has recently ordered an additional 27 trams, which will increase the fleet size to 147 vehicles.  The Trafford Park Line will provide connectivity to the Trafford Centre, Greater Manchester’s largest shopping and leisure facility, from 2020.  There is also ambition for further network expansion, to continue to improve connectivity throughout the Greater Manchester region.

With this growth comes an increased reliance on third party suppliers to help TfGM to deliver its objectives, and consequently to ensure expenditure against these contracts deliver optimum value for the public purse.  In this role you will be a vital member of the Metrolink Commercial team, responsible for managing and controlling both the revenue and cost streams associated with these third party service contracts.  You will work with the wider Metrolink team to ensure compliance against diverse and wide ranging service specifications, spanning various categories such as facilities management, asset management and utilities.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, ambitious and hardworking individual with the necessary experience and professional background to fulfil this role and become an important member of the Metrolink team.  You will have strong experience in, and knowledge of, the contract management lifecycle (especially in relation to service based contracts) with extensive negotiations skills, knowledge of industry standards and will be conversant with various forms of contract.  You will be confident in working with senior internal colleagues and external stakeholders.

The salary for this role is £38,866 - £43,745 per annum based on experience.

In return, we offer a fantastic range of benefits, including:
• free home to work travel by train or Metrolink within the Greater Manchester boundary;
• free bus travel across Greater Manchester;
• 27 days annual leave;
• access to the local government pension scheme

If you believe you have the skills and experience we’re looking we would really like to hear from you!

We welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.  We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve.
