Integrity & Compliance Director  

British Cycling is considered the best in the world in international competition. Current standings at Olympic and Paralympic level mean that we require the very best specialists in all areas of our business. We now have an exciting new opportunity for an inspirational and creative individual who can ensure British Cycling demonstrates unparalleled integrity and compliance across all aspects of the sport in relation to our governance, our rules and regulations, and safeguarding the reputation of British Cycling domestically and internationally. Act as the Chief Regulatory Officer for the Federation to the UCI.  

The role of the Integrity & Compliance Director is to:
  • Legal Matters: Lead on all British Cycling Legal matters including regulatory, commercial and company secretariat
  • Managing and Maintaining British Cycling Rules & Regulations: Align with cycling’s global governing body, the UCI, and through the discipline commissions, ensure that all Rules and Regulations governing British Cycling are appropriate, communicated correctly and enforced. Lead on all disciplinary and sanction matters ensuring efficient and timely systems are in place through the regional volunteer structure
  • Delivering Stable and Transparent Governance: Ensure the necessary processes and procedures are in place to ensure that British Cycling is compliant with the UK Code of Sports Governance. Continue to raise standards at all levels from main board to regional boards and committees, aiming to become a benchmark for sports governance in the UK.  Lead on the maintenance of a board skills matrix and support the CEO / Chair in recruiting, inducting, appraising and developing our Board Members
  • Driving unparalleled Ethics and Compliance: Lead on all safeguarding and anti-doping matters. Positively ensure British Cycling ethics and compliance standards and policies are clearly documented and available to all staff and volunteers, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and tools to confront the complexity of or the potential of unethical or corrupt practices. Management and monitoring of non-employee complaints, grievances, performance capability or any other disciplinary issues
  • Meeting Integrity and Compliance through Education: Development of a standard suite of educational courses designed to underpin the Integrity and Compliance frameworks, which ensures staff, officials, casual workers and volunteers understand the regulatory requirements, compliance standards and guidelines under which British Cycling operates. Delivery of the Integrity & Compliance Educational Programme with practical information on compliance monitoring, how to deal with regulation and legal breaches, and understanding how compliance processes can reinforce and positively strengthen organisational culture
We are keen to hear from individuals who are:
  • Degree qualified with a significant and demonstrable record of delivering world class sports regulation and governance
  • A registered solicitor and a recognised expert from a legal or regulatory environment with significant PQE and a progressive track record of sporting leadership roles
  • Experienced in successfully building and developing business cases that demonstrate a value driven approach to leading progressive governance and ethical decision making
  • Recognised experience in the development and adherence of sporting Rules and Regulations, Bye-Laws and Articles designed to maximise the integrity of a given sport
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the British Cycling scene preferably with an understanding of the regional governance structure, or an active member of a cycling community with an understanding of the needs of the sport/membership.
