We're looking for a natural leader with excellent people skills combined with a passion for connecting people with nature. Working at RSPB Rathlin Island West Lighthouse and Seabird Centre, RSPB's most awesome visitor attraction and most successful people engagement reserve in Northern Ireland, you'll be providing a unique and fascinating visitor experience inspiring our visitors to support nature conservation now and in the future. During the autumn and winter months you will deliver a programme of events and activities for both the local community and for out of season visitors.  This role is fundamental in ensuring we have the highest quality of visitor experience for both new and existing audiences.

This Visitor Experience Manager post will be responsible for leading and delivering the RSPB NI visitor experience offer, including busy events and activities programmes, reserve interpretation, partnership working, volunteer recruitment and management and working with our Communications Team to deliver promotional activities, particularly social media content.

You will be working with the Site Manager to ensure a coherent visitor offer is delivered whilst also working closely with the HQ team to ensure reserves delivery is aligned with strategy.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in event management, visitor experience and communications - if that's you we'd love to hear from you.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • 4 GCSEs at grades A-C and 2 A levels or equivalent.
  • Educated to at least HND level or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritise workloads
  • A natural leader who can motivate and inspire people at all levels
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to manage and respond to customer needs and feedback
  • Ability to maximise opportunities for visitor engagement and income generation
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • Computer literate
  • Sound understanding of systems and procedures necessary to run a commercial visitor operation
  • Working knowledge of visitor engagement techniques
  • Proven track record of managing a successful visitor project or visitor attraction
  • Experience of managing and delivering targets and KPI’s
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting data in a visitor experience environment
  • Experience of planning and delivery a high quality visitor offer
  • Successful experience of managing a team of staff and/or volunteers

Desirable qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Tourism/leisure related qualification
  • Working knowledge of Equal Opportunities & Diversity
  • Health and Safety in the workplace
