Situated within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG) is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history, and our new strategy ‘Charting Our Course’ puts our people at the core of its success. 

We are looking for someone who wants to create stories which engage everyone who comes to our unique sites. A particular focus for this role will be supporting the History of Science curators by undertaking day-to-day responsibilities as they develop content for the ‘First Light’ project, through which RMG will commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Royal Observatory. You don’t need to have come from a museum or heritage background but will be motivated to learn about our work, to act as an ambassador for the Museum and to bring new perspectives to our visitors.

You will need to demonstrate an interest in the history of science and an ability to bring related ideas and issues to life, making them relevant and accessible through research, exhibitions and displays, publications and social media. This new and exciting opportunity will provide opportunities for you to build your curatorial skills and knowledge. 

Key elements of your role will include carrying out research, digitising and cataloguing aspects of the collections. You will work flexibly and proactively with teams across the Museum, developing your role as your knowledge of the collections deepens and you engage more widely with our audiences.

Core hours of work will be 36 per week, 9.00am-5.00pm, Monday-Friday, with an additional hour to be worked as agreed upon with your line manager.
