SENCO, Designated LAC and Safeguarding Lead

Salary: L10-14

Required for September 2020 

The Principal of Heanor Gate Science College is looking to appoint an ambitious leader to assume responsibility for inclusion and the strategic delivery of learning support across the school. This position will sit around the senior leadership team of the school and support the Vice Principal in the development of positive culture amongst all sub groups of learners. The successful candidate will also be the strategic lead for safeguarding, LAC and our early help family well-being offer, leading a team of over 20 learning support staff. 

The successful candidate will have a desire to raise standards of achievement for children with a SEND, to increase staff confidence and competence in teaching children with SEND and to ensure children access equal opportunities to their peers. The successful candidate will hold the relevant SENCO qualifications and have a proven track record of working within a strong pastoral / achievement team.

Candidates will need to demonstrate:  

  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of practice
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and a relevant DSL qualification
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to lead, motivate and inspire staff and students to reach the highest levels of achievement, along with outstanding classroom teaching
  • Evidence of whole school responsibility or significant contribution to whole school initiatives
  • The ability to operate at a strategic level including effective use of data, self-evaluation and quality assurance processes
  • A track record of successful outcomes ideally from a pastoral perspective
  • A philosophy of strong behavior management
