Guidance and University Counsellor

Beginning in the 2017-18 academic year, we are seeking a Guidance and University Counsellor to work in our Senior and Middle School as a Grade 9/10 Counsellor. With strong communication skills and a proven ability to build a caring rapport with students, the successful candidate will join the Student Support team and report into the Director, Guidance and University Relations.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide counselling to meet the social, emotional and educational needs of assigned students;
  • Liaise and communicate with teachers, students, parents and administrators;
  • Assist students in selecting appropriate courses;
  • Counsel students on behaviour, school progress, personal/social issues regarding home, family and peer concerns;
  • Actively participate on problem solving and intervention teams to facilitate early involvement and resolution to learning or social problems;
  • Assist in planning and participate in various Guidance information sessions for parents and students;
  • Write counsellor reports and/or letters where required.
  • Teach one section of Career Studies and Learning Strategies Course

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • University degree in education;
  • A Guidance Specialist Certification and/or a Master’s degree in counselling is preferred;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in high school counselling;
  • Knowledge of IB Middle Years Program an asset
  • Experience working with a team;
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • An awareness of or experience overseeing educational opportunities offered by external organizations;
  • An awareness of or experience overseeing scholarship opportunities;
  • Skill with using technology and databases.
