Do you remember finding your first ladybird? Share that excitement as a learning assistant with the RSPB by delivering our education programme to visiting schools, where typical activities range from hands-on exploration of meadows, woods and ponds to playing environmental games.

We deliver learning programmes to all children and young people of all ages from EYFS to A Level. Our Schools on Reserves programme aims to give schoolchildren the chance to experience nature first-hand and you can be part of their exciting journey of discovery!

What’s the role about?

To deliver RSPB programmes for connecting schoolchildren and young people with nature, through curriculum-linked education programmes on the reserve, 2 days per week.

What we need from you.

Essential knowledge:

  • Good level of general ecological and natural history knowledge.
  • Good understanding of health & safety and safeguarding issues with regards to outdoor education.

Essential skills:

  • Confidence and ability to facilitate a day’s programme both in the field and in the classroom with a group of students and their teacher.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of ages and abilities of children.
  • Abundant enthusiasm and excellent communication skills.

Essential experience:

  • Previous teaching experience or work with groups of young people.
  • Working experience of environmental education.
  • Working experience of teaching outdoors.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Degree level.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Working knowledge of the National Curriculum

About the nature reserve:

The marshes are one of the few remaining ancient grassland and grazing marshes in the UK. This variety of wildlife and habitats provides a fantastic opportunity for all types of field study for schools to explore the unique landscape of the marshes.

With our innovative and sustainable Environment and Education Centre, dedicated education discovery zones and the River Thames on our doorstep, the marshes are a safe and inspiring environment for schools to get close to nature.

This is a fixed term part-time contract role from 1 April until 31 July 2022 for 2 days per week.
