Milton Keynes College is working in partnership with HMP xxx to put education at the heart of the prison system.

We have a brand new opportunity for a Distance Learning Tutor, to deliver student success and an outstanding learning experience through the provision of high quality support to distance learning students. The post holder will be expected to carry out day-to-day tasks with the minimum of direct supervision and coordinate the use of the virtual campus ensuring a prison wide approach to the use.

This is a vital position in the delivery of high quality pastoral care where support will be given to an identified caseload of tutees with the purpose of effectively supporting and monitoring progress and attainment.

This role is based at HMP Birmingham, which is a focused on the resettlement of prisoners. It provides a framework to support the achievement of realistic resettlement goals by offering opportunities to prisoners willing to work hard and accept responsibility for achieving those goals.

Location: HMP Birmingham
Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary: £18,015 - £32,578 per annum

As a successful candidate you will:

• Hold a relevant qualification (level 3 or above).
• Hold a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) or willing to work towards
• Have an ability to lead and co-ordinate effectively
• Have a proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes.
• Have experience of identifying, developing and sharing innovative and creative teaching resources
• Have experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
• Have the ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of learners and willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies.
• Have good IT skills level 2 or above.
• Show accuracy and precision in written presentation.
• The requirement of this role is to work across the whole prison estate, on all wings where education is delivered.
